Ethiopia in the Crosshairs of the “Most Corrupt” and Laziest, Do-Nothing Member of Congress

Over the past year, Representative Gregory Meeks, (D-NY), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has been working harder than a funeral home fan in July to impose crippling sanctions against Ethiopia.

Meeks sponsored HR 6600 (“Ethiopia Stabilization, Peace, and Democracy Act”) and rammed it through his committee without any discussions.

HR 6600 is intended to cripple the Ethiopian economy and trigger massive social upheaval and rebellion to overthrow the first-ever democratically elected, African Union-certified free and fair election in Ethiopian history.

On March 30, 2021, Meeks sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken. “We urge the Administration to continue its efforts to assess credible reporting and impose targeted sanctions swiftly.”

On May 10, 2021, Meeks issued a statement “urging the Administration to urgently use all available tools, including sanctions and other restrictive measures, to hold all perpetrators accountable and bring an end to this conflict.”

In a May 26, 2021 op-ed entitled, “On Ethiopia, the U.S. Must Show Resolve”, Meeks came out with guns blazing:

Against this grim backdrop, few believe Ethiopia’s upcoming national elections stand a real chance of being free or fair… The Biden administration’s recent announcement of visa bans on those perpetuating the suffering in Tigray is a good start, but more robust measures are needed… Our interests cannot be met through a partnership with a failed state. A fraught US-Ethiopia relationship is a far lower price to pay than that of state collapse. The prudent course is clear. In support of a peaceful, prosperous, democratic Ethiopia, America must show resolve. (Italics added.)

Using the same yardstick to declare Ethiopia a “failed state”, could it be said that America is also a failed state? In state collapse?

Meeks’ purported “fierce urgency of now” for crippling sanctions emanates from his own inexcusable and willful ignorance and disingenuous claims of 1) “humanitarian crisis” in Ethiopia based on  fabricated reports, 2) “deep concern” over the alleged “failure of   Eritrean force withdrawal from Ethiopia”, and 3) lack of inclusive political dialogue and gross violations of human rights in Tigray.”

The kernel from all of the hull (I did not say bull) Meeks has kicked up in the air in his letters, statements and op-ed pieces is simply the return of the terrorist Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to power in Ethiopia by “inclusive dialogue”.

Meeks and his crew believe they can sneak the TPLF into power by using the smoke and mirrors trick of sanctions to force Ethiopia into negotiations (“inclusive dialogue”).

The funny thing about Meeks’ involvement in supporting the terrorist TPLF is that HR 6600 is the only time he has sponsored any legislation affecting Africa since he came to Congress in 1998.

Not only that Meeks in 24 years in Congress never served as chair or member of the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights (or under any prior designation of the subcommittee.)

As a senior member of the congressional democratic party, he could have easily asked for such an assignment, but he never did because he did not care about Africa.

After 24 years, in Congress, Meeks comes out of nowhere and becomes the champion the cause of the terrorist TPLF disguised as a human rights defender.

But there are two critical questions that need to be asked about Meeks overzealous involvement in Ethiopia’s internal affairs.

First, does a crook-gressman who has been on the take (taking bribes)  and dodged criminal indictments for a long time have the moral authority to lecture Ethiopia on good governance and human rights?

Second, why is Meeks so overzealously involved in Ethiopia’s internal affairs while he COMPLETELY ignores the interests of his constituents in the 5th congressional district in NY.

“Most corrupt member of Congress”

Watchdog groups have designated Meeks at the top of the list of most corrupt member of Congress.

Meeks’ crimes, lawlessness, misconduct and wrongdoing are as vast as they are mindboggling in their criminal sophistication.

But for the protection he received in the Obama administration and from the democratic congressional leadership, Meeks today would be cooling his heels in a federal prison.

A 2007 U.S. House of Representatives Office of Congressional Ethics in a 67-page  report found Meeks received $40,000 from a personal friend, Edul Ahmad, with no set interest rate or repayment terms. By failing to properly disclose the $40,000 as a gift, he violated House rules and standards of conduct, and federal law.

Today (4/13/22), New York’s lieutenant governor turned himself into federal authorities to face charges of bribery and corruption on very similar allegations Meeks faced had faced soliciting campaign contributions as loans and using nonprofit organization to launder money.

Meeks paid $27,000 in campaign funds to a company set up by his treasurer — whose husband is on his congressional payroll.

On October 28, 2011, the National Legal and Policy Center filed a formal Complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against Meeks alleging Meeks accepted illegal, in-kind contributions from R. Allen Stanford.

Allen Stanford was jailed for 110 years for $7bn Ponzi scheme.

Meeks also disguised personal gambling junkets to Las Vegas as a leadership PAC fundraiser.

Federal investigators examined Meeks’ ties to several nonprofit groups in Queens, N.Y. and allegations he misused thousands of dollars in donations raised for Hurricane Katrina victims were quietly dropped.

Meeks is a crook who belongs in the jailhouse not the U.S. House of Representatives.

Laziest and demonstrably do-nothing-for-his-constituents member of Congress

Meeks is not only the “most corrupt” member of Congress but also demonstrably the laziest and most indifferent to his constituents in the 5th District.

The data is incontrovertible.

Between 1998 and 2022, Meeks introduced 113 bills in Congress and got only one (1) passed. The bill he passed had to do with naming a post office in his district.

Bills introduced by Meeks as reported by Propublica.org, (Pulitzer Prize winner for investigative journalism) by Month/Year and Outcome

The only bill Meeks introduced in his entire congressional career that became law was H.R.3957 in 2014. The law was intended to

To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 218-10 Merrick Boulevard in Springfield Gardens, New York, as the “Cynthia Jenkins Post Office Building.

On January 21, 2022, Meeks introduced a crippling sanctions bill in HR 5470 (“Defending Ukraine Sovereignty Act” and promptly forgot about it.

Yet, because of seniority system, Meeks has became chairman of the House Foreign Relations Committee even though in his prior quarter of a century service in Congress, he had not been involved in any foreign policy related committees whatsoever!

Meeks has not passed a single bill helping African American constituents as he championed the cause of a terrorist group in Ethiopia.

As the old saying goes, “Money talks and bull***t walks.”

With crook-gressman Meeks, you gotta pay to play and supporters of terrorist TPLF paid under and over the table.

Do Meeks’ constituents in New York’s 5th Congressional District know they have a literally do-nothing, good-for-nothing representative in Congress?

For years, Meeks (6th /5th congressional district) has been winning and getting elected by substantial margins.

The million-dollar question is whether the people who voted for him have any clue whatsoever that they have a do-nothing, dud representative in Washington, DC.

Do they know of his shameful batting average of 0.008 over 24 years in bills passed!

The demographics of Meeks district may or may not shed light on this question.

The 2020 Census data show NY’s 5th congressional district is 49.5% Black, 17.4% Hispanic and 13.6% Asian.

Females represent the majority of the population in that district (52.4) and 45.5% are black. The college graduation rate registers at 26.2% and high school graduation is at 82.3%.

The fact remains that Meeks has been scamming his constituents for decades as their representative while doing absolutely nothing for them.

But is it not a low-down crying shame that Meeks has fought more for the vicious terrorist TPLF than his own constituents?

When his constituents in Queens, NY (Meeks congressional district) recently staged demonstrations against police brutality, Meeks was nowhere to be seen.

Meeks did not pen an op-ed urging the mayor of New York to investigate the brutality allegations and take prompt action.

Meeks did not write a letter demanding prosecution of police officers engaged in abuse of police powers.

Of course, as a senior member of the democratic party in Congress, Meeks has made no efforts to mobilize the democratic leadership in the Senate to bring  H.R.7120 – George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020, to the floor of the Senate for a vote.

Meeks did not issue a press release or any other statement taking a position on police brutality in his district.

Meeks did nothing to build greater trust and respect between police and Queens’ community of color or propose legislation in Congress to enhance public safety in his district.

But Meeks fought tooth and nails to impose crippling sanctions on Ethiopia in support of the terrorist TPLF on mere allegations of brutality, war crimes and sundry human rights abuses.

Meeks cried bloody murder and demanded human rights investigations into brutality in Ethiopia by the UN.

Meeks demanded “swift” action sanctioning Ethiopian leaders for brutality and war crimes.

But, lo and behold, Meeks is working hand-in-glove with Senator Robert “Teflon Don” Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to bring S. 3199 (Senate version of HR 6600) to the floor of the Senate.

The million-dollar question is, “In nearly a quarter of a century, what legislation has Meeks sponsored to help his constituents District 5?”

The answer is NONE!

Meeks is symbiotically connected to the terrorist TPLF than the people in his district.

Meeks had done more and fought more for the terrorist TPLF than his constituents in the 5th District.

The people of NY 5th District voted for Meeks, not supporters of the terrorist TPLF.

The billion-dollar question on June 28, 2022

Does Gregory Meeks serve the people of congressional District 5 in NY or the terrorist TPLF in Tigray, Ethiopia?

The congressional primary in District 5 will take place on June 28, 2022.

In past elections, Meeks has been winning by substantial margins and getting reelected.

Will District 5 voters vote for him knowing Meeks in Congress is, has been and will continue to be a do-nothing, good-for-nothing representative?

I am not sure District 5 voters will do the right thing and dump Meeks.

Was H. L. Mencken, “The Sage of Baltimore” right when he said, “Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the North American public.”

I urge the voters of District 5 NY to kick their corrupt and lazy-ass representative in Congress in the ass and set him off to pasture.

The voters of Congressional District 5 NY deserve better.

They deserve a member of Congress who is committed  to serving them, not some vicious terrorist organization holed up under rocks in Northern Ethiopia.

The voters of Congressional District 5 NY should make June 28, 2022, DD Day (Drive Corrupt and Lazy Representatives Outta Congress Day)

DUMP MEEKS ON JUNE 28, 2022!
