HELL HAS NO FURY LIKE THE NEW YORK TIMES ON A CIA MISSION TO WAGE INFOWARFARE ON ETHIOPIA!
[This opinion piece first appeared in the Ethiopian Herald on December 19, 2021.]
The New York Times’ motto is, “All the news that is fit to print.”
That slogan suggests there is no place for “unfit” fake news, fake analysis and fake journalism.
That motto is reinforced in the Times’ lofty profession of journalistic standards proclaiming a commitment “to maintain the highest standards of journalistic ethics. Our fundamental purpose is to protect the impartiality and neutrality of The Times and the integrity of its report. In print and online, we tell our readers the complete, unvarnished truth as best we can learn it.”
The fact of the matter is that the New York Times is a mouthpiece, the de facto propaganda arm, of the U.S. government, specifically the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
The fact that the CIA has staged and stage-managed coups, regime changes and installed puppet governments throughout the world is well-documented. The list of CIA-managed coups seems endless.
The fact that the CIA has used and continues to covertly use major media outlets and other civic institutions in the U.S. and around the world as its mouthpiece is also amply documented.
That the CIA should try to effect a coup or otherwise restore the terrorist Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to power in Ethiopia and use that opportunity to divide and rule the Ethiopian people has been confirmed on video by the spokesperson of the TPLF.
The CIA’s subversion of civic and media institutions began in the early 1950s with Operation Mockingbird when it “enlisted more than 400 American journalists, as well as journalists around the world, to manipulate public opinion by spreading propaganda or what we call it today, fake news.”
The New York Times has been the tip of the spear in the CIA’s global psychological operations (psyops) war and global disinformation campaigns.
In 1977, Rolling Stone magazine published an article (exceeding 25 thousand words) by the famed (Watergate Scandal) journalist Carl Bernstein which documented the CIA’s calculated program of cooptation and creation of a cadre of “journalist‑operatives who were accorded elite status due to close association with high‑level CIA officials.”
Indeed, the “the most valuable association the CIA had with the media was with the New York Times, “according to CIA officials.”
In 1978, a U.S. Senate committee investigating the CIA concluded 50 U.S. journalists or employees of American news organizations “were employed by the CIA or maintained some other covert relationship.”
That investigation revealed, “A high-level CIA official with a prodigious memory says The New York Times provided cover for about 10 CIA operatives between 1950 and 1966.”
In 1996, the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence further documented the CIA’s use of journalists and clergy in intelligence operations.
The extent of the CIA’s insidious takeover of the New York Times editorial operations was revealed in 2006 when evidence surfaced showing the CIA reviewed and censored a draft of an Op-Ed written by a former National Security Council staffer and former foreign service officer “completely overtaking the normal prepublication review process and demanding substantial deletions.”
Similarly, in 2012, evidence surfaced showing the New York Times’ national security and intelligence reporter and CIA spokeswoman exchanging correspondence and colluding to suppress an Op-Ed by a Times’ columnist who sought to expose the CIA’s role in providing information on a movie depicting the killing of Osama bin Laden to boost Obama’s re-election chances.
In 2020, the New York Times, launching a CIA disinformation campaign, was the first to report, “citing zero evidence and naming zero sources” that Russia paid out bounties to Taliban-linked fighters in Afghanistan for attacking US and allied forces in Afghanistan.”
James Risen, former New York Times reporter and author of bestsellers including two books on the CIA and threatened with a jail sentence in the trial of a former CIA agent charged with providing classified information, argued the national security state wants to “control the press and limit what you write… If you go beyond those limits, you will be punished.”
The “degradation of journalism” by the New York Times as a tool of imperial power has been long criticized.
New York Times’ Infowars mission in Ethiopia in the service of the CIA
The New York Times has multifaceted missions in its CIA-controlled InfoWarfare on Ethiopia.
On the one hand, the Times’ aims to conduct a bizarre personal vilification campaign against PM Abiy Ahmed in order to delegitimize his leadership and discredit his government.
On the other hand, the Times aims is to demoralize the Ethiopian people and demonize them in the eyes of the global community.
Ultimately, the Times aims to perpetuate a narrative that Ethiopia is going to hell in a handbasket and only the West, with U.S. leadership and military intervention, can save her from implosion.
New York Times reporter Declan Walsh in his December 15, 2021 “Analysis” on Ethiopia seeks to further the CIA’s Infowarfare on Ethiopia with reckless abandon of basic journalistic standards.
In his “analysis”, Walsh spins a tall-tale of a prime minister who held “secret meetings with a dictator”, “coordinated clandestine troop movements” and “quietly prepared for war for months.”
Walsh’s analysis is built around a narrative of sensational vilification of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Walsh paints a picture of an evil political genius who cleverly managed to hoodwink the Nobel Peace Prize Committee and Western governments to become an African warmonger and war lord. But the “West, desperate to find a new hero in Africa, got this leader spectacularly wrong.”
According to Walsh, after PM Abiy received the Nobel Peace Prize, he believed “he was one of the most influential personalities in the world” and “felt he had a lot of international support, and that if he went to war in Tigray, nothing would happen.”
Walsh argues PM Abiy diabolically used the Nobel Peace Prize as a cover to “plan a military campaign in the northern Tigray region for months before war erupted one year ago, setting off a cascade of destruction and ethnic violence that has engulfed Ethiopia.”
Walsh is apoplectic that PM Abiy has won the Nobel. In his 2236-word article, Walsh devotes 459 words (20.5%) to rag on PM Abiy for winning the Nobel.
Manifestly, Walsh does not believe a young African leader unknown to many a year before he received the Nobel deserves it.
In the lyrics of the great Nina Simone, “Young, gifted and black/ Oh what a lovely precious dream/ To be young, gifted and black.” Walsh would not understand what it means to be young, gifted, black and African if he lives for a million years!
That is why Walsh is chafing and blathering about PM Abiy’s Nobel with such bitterness and unbridled anger. He thinks he can rescind PM Abiy’s Peace Prize by his vindictive media vilification in the pages of the New York Times.
I got news for Walsh.
PM Abiy winning the Nobel Peace Prize ain’t nothing.
PM Abiy has won the hearts and minds of 115 million Ethiopians and was put in office by 40 million of his people in a free and fair election.
Walsh claims PM Abiy and Eritrean President Isaias Afeworki engaged in conspiratorial meetings to plan for war. “Mr. Abiy and Mr. Isaias met at least 14 times from the time they signed the peace deal until war broke out.” The “meetings were mostly one-on-one” and held in “secret”.
Walsh boasts he unearthed a treasure trove of “new evidence” exposing PM Abiy’s diabolical war plans to wage war on the TPLF.
Walsh’s “new evidence” consists of hearsay and speculation from “current and former Ethiopian officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity”, “exiles in Europe” and “former officials and friends” of PM Abiy.
According to Walsh’s new evidence, PM Abiy and Eritrean President Isaias Afewerki conducted cloak and dagger operations shuttling loads of weapons on military cargo planes from Eritrea.
And “behind closed doors”, PM Abiy and “his advisers and generals debated the merits of a conflict. Those who disagreed were fired, interrogated at gunpoint or forced to leave.”
Walsh psychoanalyzes PM Abiy and claims his actions are driven by a vendetta against Tigrayans who “never felt fully accepted him” and subjected him to “numerous humiliations.”
Declan Walsh is a CIA “presstitute”
A “presstitute” is a “journalist who gives biased and predetermined views misleadingly tailored to fit a particular partisan, financial or business agenda, thus neglecting the fundamental duty to report news impartially.”
Declan Walsh is a CIA “presstitute”.
Walsh has a sordid history of expulsion from countries he has covered undercover to advance CIA disinformation.
In May 2013, Walsh was expelled from Pakistan for writing sensational “if it bleeds, it leads” stories about Pakistan’s secret dirty war.
Walsh wrote about “bodies surfacing quietly, like corks bobbing up in the dark” and “gruesome parade of corpses”. His “report” was indistinguishable from an Op-Ed.
In 2017, Walsh was secretly airlifted out of Cairo by Irish diplomats “after a tip-off from an American official that he faced possible detention by authorities.” Egyptian authorities were unwilling to comment on Walsh’s CIA connections.
In 2019, a New York Times reporter was detained at the Cairo Airport, denied entry and swiftly returned to London.
In May 2020, Declan Walsh wrote a story about Simon Marks, an Irish journalist working for The New York Times, expelled from Ethiopia.
Walsh described Mark’s expulsion as a “new blow to press freedom in a country as the government fights a grinding war in the northern region of Tigray.”
In November 2021, Ethiopia expelled four of six Irish diplomats working in Addis Ababa “due to the positions Ireland has articulated internationally, including at the U.N. Security Council, on the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia.”
Declan Walsh is himself an Irish journalist working for the New York Times!
In 2021, Ethiopia closed its Embassy in Ireland as unnecessary and said the U.S. Embassy in London can take care of what little business Ethiopia has with Ireland.
Could Walsh also be exacting a personal vendetta against the Ethiopian Government for expulsion of an Irish reporter and Irish diplomats engaged in disinformation campaigns against Ethiopia? Could it be that he was also a co-conspirator in Ethiopia disinformation with them?
I wonder why the Government of Ireland and the Irish New York Times reporters identify so closely wit the TPLF.
Could it be that the TPLF and the IRA (Irish Republican Army) are brothers from different mothers?
Walsh’s reporting on Ethiopia as a CIA presstitute is so transparently biased that it appears his stories are written for him by agents in the CIA’s “Disinfo Program.”
Walsh perpetuates the CIA’s narrative that Ethiopia is so ethnically fragmented it is ready to balkanize.
Walsh perpetuates the CIA’s narrative that the “Oromo accounting for about one-third of the country’s 110 million people, have long felt excluded from power” and that PM Abiy, an ethnic Oromo, thwarted the destiny of the Oromo people.
Walsh perpetuates the CIA’s narrative that “in late 2019 violent clashes between police officers and protesters erupted across the Oromia region, culminating in the death in June 2020 of a popular singer.”
Walsh pushes all the conspiracy theory buttons to create the impression of ethnic persecution and cryptically suggesting PM Abiy is to blame for the “unexplained killing of the Ethiopian military chief, Gen. Seare Mekonnen, an ethnic Tigrayan who was shot dead by a bodyguard in June 2019.”
Promoting the U.S. Government’s unfounded and calculated alarm call to evacuate American citizens out of Ethiopia, Walsh has been pushing the CIA narrative that the “TPLF-Tigrayans routed the Ethiopian troops and their Eritrean allies over the summer and last month came within 160 miles of the capital, Addis Ababa — prompting Mr. Abiy to declare a state of emergency.”
Walsh blames the Ethiopian government for “retaking two strategic towns that had been captured by the Tigrayans” and “pushing hundreds of thousands into famine-like conditions.”
Declan Walsh, fake journalist
Who creates and perpetuates fake news?
Naturally, fake journalists!
The New York Times prides itself for its commitment to “impartiality and neutrality of The Times and the integrity of its report. In print and online, we tell our readers the complete, unvarnished truth as best we can learn it.”
Well, what about the “complete unvarnished truth” about the TPLF and the unspeakable crimes it committed during the past year?
Walsh’s revisionist historical analysis (calculated distortions of historical facts for disinformation) completely ignores the monumental fact the conflict in Ethiopia was started by the TPLF. But for the attack on the Ethiopian Northern Command, the suffering and destruction we are witnessing today would not have existed.
Walsh actually claims the TPLF attack on the Ethiopian Northern Command triggering the conflict was a figment of PM Abiy’s imagination as the PM “insists that war was foisted upon him.”
Declan Walsh revisionist CIA-written history of the conflict in Ethiopia does not mention a word, not one solitary word, about the TPLF’s
massacres in Mai Cadra on November 9, 2020, killing at least 1,657 innocent people.
massacre in Galikoma in Afar region in August 2021, killing several hundred.
massacres and gang rapes in Nefas Mewcha in Amhara region in November 2021.
rejection of the Ethiopian Government’s declaration of unilateral ceasefire in June 2021.invasion of Amhara and Afar regions taking advantage of the unilateral ceasefire.
massive destruction of infrastructure in Amhara and Afar regions.
demolition of churches, mosques, schools and hospitals.
looting of USAID grain storage warehouses and hijacking of aid transportation.
Walsh does not mention the various human rights by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the UNHCR and Ethiopian Human Rights Commission reports documenting heinous TPLF acts of terrorism.
Neither does Walsh mention the TPLF is a terrorist organization listed in the Global Terrorism Database and the Terror Research and Analysis Consortium (TRAC). Walsh ignores the fact that the U.S. government had classified the TPLF as a “tier III” terrorist organization until 2014.
The not-so-secret CIA hybrid war on Ethiopia and the White Man’s Burden
The Biden Administration, no doubt, has declared war on Ethiopia.
It is a state-sponsored terrorist war. A war prosecuted by economic sanctions.
It is a hybrid war of lies, damned lies and disinformation using the New York Times and its ilk.
It is a psyops war.
It is a diplomatic war waged at the United Nations.
On December 17, 2021, the United Nations Human Rights Council voted on a European Union resolution masterminded by the U.S. and backed by certain Western States “ordering” an international investigation into human rights abuses in Ethiopia.
Not a single African country voted for the European resolution.
Neither did China, Russia and India, among others.
In 2018, President Donald Trump ordered the U.S. withdrawal from the U.N. Human Rights Council. Then U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley said, “We take this step because our commitment does not allow us to remain a part of a hypocritical and self-serving organisation that makes a mockery of human rights.”
I supported President’s Trump’s decision in my op ed in The Hill on June 9, 2017
I have tussled with the New York Times a few times over the past year.
On December 14, 2020, I debunked with irrefutable forensic medical evidence a New York Times story written about ethnic massacres in Tigray.
Today, the entire 115 million people of Ethiopia stand as ONE fighting and defending against the multipronged war the Biden administration is waging on them.
Declan Walsh and his media-spy masters are carrying out what they believe to be their destiny — the White Man’s Burden to save the Ethiopian savages.
Walsh, using the words of Alex Rondos, formerly the European Union’s top diplomat in the Horn of Africa, commands, “The West needs to make up for its mistakes in Ethiopia” and save a “country of 110 million people from unraveling.”
Note well.
The dogs of war and their media lapdogs can keep on barking until kingdom come, but the Ethiopian camel will keep on walking straight into PROSPERITY!
In the end, the dogs of war and their media lapdogs will learn a hard lesson: ETHIOPIANS UNITED CAN NEVER BE DEFEATED!
