Ode (Poem) Composed In Celebration of “Dawn of Democracy Day (DD-Day) Ethiopia, June 21, 2021”
Ethiopia, thou Land of 13-months of Sunshine
Thou land enveloped in darkness for millennia
Whose seasons were Disease, Division, Oppression and Poverty,
Today, June 21, 2021, you proudly stand on the cusp of peace and prosperity.
Ethiopia, thou chosen Land of Genesis 13 Ghion
Thou blessed land whose bosom sheltered the Prophet’s own
But whose children live scattered in the diaspora wind
Today, June 21, 2021, is your day democracy to find.
Ethiopia, thou Land of Warriors and Peacemakers
Thou land of the free and the brave
Whose star shone high and bright
When Africa was mired in colonial blight.
Ethiopia, thou Land of Origins
Thou Mother of Humanity
You shall rise and shine again with certainty
And teach democracy to the world/Western community.
Ethiopia thou Land of the Proud and Humble
Your enemies command, “Ceasefire! Ceasefire!”
To aid terrorists, they huff and puff, “If you refuse, we will unleash our chariots of fire”
History warns that will be the end of their Evil Empire!
Ethiopia, thou Land of Green, Yellow and Red
We will till your land until everyone is fed
We will turn your deserts into evergreen
Plant billions of trees and harvest yellow wheat like it’s never been seen.
Ethiopia thou Land of Abay (Nile)
Thou source of life for millions
May blessings continue to fall upon you from spacious skies
Which we have already witnessed with our own eyes.
Ethiopia, thou Land of Our Fathers and Our Mothers
Thou land destined to be a Horn of Plenty
We shall proudly defend your sovereignty and our liberty
But always keep open your doors for all to enjoy your famed hospitality.
Ethiopia, thou Land of Coffee
Your gift makes the world go around, calm nerves and help us rebound
Without your gift, there would be so much fury and jangling sound
Without your gift, the world would be a battleground.
Ethiopia, thou Land of Medemer Way
On June 21 we shall commit to peace and stop the swordplay
On June 21 we shall pick the hammer of prosperity
And nail shut the coffin of poverty.
Ethiopia, our hearts and minds bow to your glory
Your children are gathered to make history
And make June 21 the dawn of democracy
In spite of your enemies’ hypocrisy/conspiracy.
Ethiopia, Land of My Birth
Thou blessed corner of the earth
I pledge my heart, head and hand to thee
That I swear, vow and guarantee.
Mother Ethiopia, how much do I love thee?
Let me count the ways
I love thee all day and all night
Just can’t wait till morning to see you shining bright.
I love thee when you are mired in poverty
I shall love thee when you triumph in prosperity
I shall love thee through thick and thin
From the top of my chin to the bottom of my shin.
Rise my Ethiopia, rise our Ethiopia
We will make you Africa’s Utopia
Rise, rise up and shine
Thank God Almighty, you will be just fine!
Brothers and sisters, let’s hold hands and get along
And in a chorus shout out a song:
Joyful, joyful Ethiopia
We love and adore thee
On June 21, 2021 you shall be set free
That with our life we will surely guarantee!
